Self Portrait Challenge
April’s Challenge: The Body.
(“Photograph your good bits, bad bits, wobbly bits and sexy bits. photograph it all and show us your body . Don’t expect to see any traditional portraits, no pretty faces or full body shots, rather bits and extracts of your self.”)
“Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in.”
~Leonard Cohen

Very cool! I love the poem.
:so-cool:it must be Leonard Cohen morning! I’ve quoted him today as well! when I was in school studying lots of feminist theory in art, I gave up doing nude portraiture in life drawing classes. I opted for the foot. the toe. somehow I felt right about the foot. after all, it suggests standing one’s ground, and walking in the direction of choice, rather than objectification. nonetheless, it has a beauty all its own…
Perfect with the poem!! I was planning feet for next week!
Your photographs are beautiful. Isn’t Leonard Cohen a genius?
Cool.
I love sock imprints on feet…
Gorgeous feet! I admire you showing us your heel! I dare not let mine out in public.
Beautiful! … the lovely bits, and the vision, and the skill with which all were captured.
I was just going to mention (after reading Michele’s blog) that this is the second Leonard Cohen reference I’ve seen today. That’s serendipity in action.
This is going to be an interesting month seeing what people come up with. Feet are so important.
Now I’ve got that Dr. Seuss book running through my mind. Right foot, left foot…..
I love your toenails. They’re perfect.
Feet! I like the way you teased with the first picture! I was really trying to figure it out…and then there were more pictures and it became clear!
Oh the first picture was cool, I couldn’t figure it out at first!
I see something I shouldn’t. :smug:
Lovely arches, my dear!
Wow – I totally thought thata first one was an avacado. :camera:
:celebrate: Nice!! I was thinking of feet sometime this month too.
Yeah I do admire the arches. My feet are flat as pancakes. I could never do that.
LOL I opened your site and my 3 year old says to me
“Yuck, feet…Can you smell them?”
Pretty, pretty! You have lovely feet.
Whenever I come here, to Juliepersonsland, I always read something so perfect that speaks to me on the day that I need it. So much so that if I had read it any other day I would have missed the message. The quote you chose today is, once again, exactly what I needed.
I love how the first photo is an absolute mystery, then each following photo reveals more until you can see that they’re of your feet!
very very nice!
the quote is perfect too!
:camera: cool! I love “that’s how the light gets in…”
ryc:
I figured if anyone got the hair statement you would! :flirty:
We both have a crack problem. Good thing our families understand. Heh. I read this thing about how to avoid having heel cracks, and there was this elaborate thing about how to choose the shoes you wear, and what treatments to apply, and whether or not to walk on what type of floor/earth, and I was like, geez, are we looking at a LIFESTYLE CHANGE here just to not have heel cracks? And who really gives a damn about my heels? Really? So I say, crack on.
I like how you ran with this theme.
I second Tigermama’s response. Hehe. You provacative little thing you.
I got cracked heels during pregnancy…just another thing that will never be quite the same. The marks of motherhood must be celebrated. Lovely.
I need to send my sis to check out your blog. She LOVES feet!! :birdie: (Just using the birdie because he’s way cute lol)
RYC: Thank you SO much!! I am going to let him give it a try once the weather is warm enough for him to do it outside.
thank you julie, for the leonard cohen quote - it was just what I needed to remember.
I see sock ridges!
See, you’re so much more fortunate than I. Not only do you have great hair, but your body challenge happens only in April, whereas mine is threehundredhowevermanydaysthereareinayear.
Kiss Molly the pooch for me (again) and tell her she’s brilliant for understanding that killer tree gig.
Wobbly feet?!
:frog: :celebrate: :ROTFL: :birdie: Oh I just adore your new smilies!!!
That first pic is tres Georgia O’Keefe… love it!!
Gr8 concept & congratulations…last pic was my fav !!!
What lovely feet you have! :big-smile: Mine definately have way more cracks in them, time to break out the foot scrub now that you’ve had me think of it. I depend on my feet daily but neglect them completely.
Wow! Love your feetsies! They are your foundation…such hard workers.
Hi, I came over from TeacherPerson to see your self portrait. Feet are very important. I’m trying to remember what I read about toe length, the longer first toe or second toe means something…I can’t remember what I read.
