    Gardeny Goodness, With Flowers

(with a thrilling photo of our laundry line and other stuff)

The kids and I have planted:

    ~ peas

    ~carrots

    ~lettuce/s

    ~chards, spinach

    ~radishes

    ~broccoli

    ~brussels sprouts

    ~celery

~ two kinds of eggplant (12 plants)

    ~red cabbage

    ~27 tomato plants

    ~9 pepper plants

    ~leeks

    ~onion sets

    ~herbs

I still need to put in the corn, beans, squash and melons this afternoon (the pace is dependent on how much “help” I have).  I am letting go of the part of me that desires tidy rows; I want the kids to truly be a part of the garden.

Perhaps we will have less vegetables (or more) or crooked rows or bare spots.

But it will belong to all of us.

  • You’ve been a busy little bee.  What do you do with all that eggplant?  I usually only have a couple plants.  Tried dehydrating it one year but wasn’t please with it.  I love your clothesline.

We used to have bees.  I’m still using honey from our last harvest.  I’m thinking how interesting that could be for the younger girls if got bees again.  Hmmm.  You’ve planted yet another idea in my head.  :wink-wink:

  • sigh I’m just dying to have a laundry line! I love that we have a lilac tree out back…smells heavenly  <—smelling the air.

  • that sounds like a busy but splendid day.  i’d love to help with planting the seeds but, alas, i’m too far away!

  • I had currents and bleeding heart in my back yard growing up.  Your pictures make me miss the smell of them!  And my grandmother always had lilacs . . . ♥

  • I’ve been meaning to take a picture of my laundry line — I think it looks so cute with the little baby clothes. Happy gardening, and happy letting go of straight rows!! :wink-wink:

  • The photos are lovely.
I’ll be in Maine this weekend shopping.
I’ll wave as we drive by.

  • Beautiful pictures.  We have Soloman’s seal in the front garden.  Your pictures do it good. Blessings abound

  • hey, we have the same laundry line!

wow, you guys go straight from winter to summer. look at those currants. amazing.

yay for windmills, bees and friends!

  • LOVE it! That colombine is lovely – and your laundry line makes me smile. :dancingcow:

  • I love all the outstanding flowers…followed by the laudry line.  You demonstrate that beauty comes in all forms.  Your garden sounds yummy.

  • Quinton’s first real zest for solid food came from foraging currants and gooseberries in our yard – nice memories for me in the photo.
    happy garden to you!

  • Wow, that chain letter looks pretty powerful, so if you’ve got a lesbian lover and were hoping for 14 kids…

Anyhow, what I wanted to say… A bird! I love the bird. I love, love, love the bird!!

Oh, and while others may covet your laundry line, having only a laundry line in the UK where it rains and rains and rains and all I want is dry underwear…I covet tumble dryers.

  • Lovely pictures!  I especially love your laundry line.  We live in a home that has an HOA and NO LAUNDRY LINES ALLOWED!  Ugh!  I love to hang laundry out.

Also, I will be watching your beekeeping experience.  We’ve been looking into getting a small hive (at least I can have THAT -  no chickens, or laundry lines, but I can have bees…).  I want to spend the next several months reading about beekeeping and then make my purchases next spring.

Can you recommend any good books for this?
