This and That
(with bonus stuff)
~We are having a water heater heat pump and new water heater installed today! The heat pump will make our hot water heater use about 65-75% less energy to heat the same amount of water. I do like me some energy efficient goodness. Watch me do the dance of energy savings right now!!
(or you may choose to avert your eyes)
~ We have finished building the bookshelves for the bookstore in our barn!!! We finished another book room last year but this was a much larger project and we are relieved to have these shelves up!
~Now that these (4000) books are out in the barn, Roo can have her bedroom!! I started painting yesterday but Roo helped me so, SO MUCH that it may take a while before we are done in there.
Here are a few “before” shots of her tiny little room
(it will be two shades of pink with white trim)
~tomorrow we are picking up this year’s fruit trees and all of our seeds at FEDCO, our local organic seed/scion co-op. A very happy day for me!
A few signs of spring
~There are other signs of spring as well: I have booked two pregnancy photo shoots for the next few weeks and am SO looking forward to it!
I am easily pleased.
happy, happy, happy.
P.S. my gifting mama’s creation is in the mail, my apologies to my recipient for my ass-dragging lateness.

Happy Spring!
Wow, tons of books. Can’t wait to see the finished room. I am just getting my giftingmamas stuff out in the mail too. :blushing:
Oh my goodness….book heaven….
I always feel so happy when I stop by to visit you Julie. I love it! Thanks for being you. Wow!!! And I thought we had a lot of books. I am impressed. How wonderful to have shelves galore for them. That picture of yhou at the bottom is one of my all time favorites of you. Beautiful, smiling Julie. I’m excited to see the after photo of Roo’s room. I bet she is going to love it. Happy Spring!
RYC: Thanks for the encouragement! Really Thank you!!
I love the little room!
The room has great light. I got your message… I see you have already started painting. There are a couple of options to make a room look bigger. It does depend on your colors (I know they are pink, but the value and hue matters a great deal.) Not knowing what they are but seeing the room… you could paint wide stripes below the chair rail, perhaps about 12″ in width with the two different colors and then paint the lighter color above the chair rail. Any time you introduce vertical stripes you add visual height to the room. If the room is *really* small then you might want to make the width of the stripes more narrow. For visual interest and just downright cuteness you could paint something directly above the chair rail. *I* would do circles, about the size of a tennisball, lime green or teal (or any other Roo approved color(s)!
I’ll send you my bill for my color consult! ;D
Thank you for the smile, a happy post it was!
What kind of flower (white flower) is in the middle picture? It looks like a tulip but those leaves do not. It is beautiful!
I am so jealous of your shelves!!
I have more books than that tho…
Yay spring! We found some apricot trees in our compost. Makes me veddy, veddy happy! M
So glad spring is heading your way. And what a sweet little room.
I adore those shelves AND all the books! I might undertake something similar this summer. Roo’s room looks lovely. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Dd’s is similar with the colors, pink with white trim and cream beadboard. I’d like to liven it up a bit though. Nice floors!
Finally, HAPPY SPRING!!!
you have bloodroot. i am jealous.
Roo has a real working fireplace in her room. How cool–actually, how toasty. The book shelves turned out great.
You get an amazing amount done and still have your priorities straight about playing with your kids and noticing the beauty around you.
You are just amazing. I love the books, but then I am truly in love with the printed word in most forms. I can’ wait to see pictures as the room progresses :frog:
Book Heaven. That’s what it is, I tell you, Heaven.
Oh yeah, you are such an ass dragger… NOT!
Thanks for all of your love this week.
Roo’s room has a fireplace??? Classy! Can’t wait to see the finished paint job.(I’m getting ready to paint myself but we are sick of the pink and thinking green or blue…)
Looks great!!! Yay for Roo! and wow! Those are amazing pictures! I’m sure the belly shoots will be amazing too!!!
What is gifting mamas??
What an excellent idea… a bookstore. :celebrate:
I am green with envy over your floors. Those wood floors are magnificent.
The flowers… love them. Especially the ones being hugged by their leaves. A tribute to loving one’s self.
Happy seeding!

I love Roo’s little room, so cozy with the fireplace. Can’t wait to see the finished room!! The flowers and spring are lovely as well:)
I am swooning over all those books. AMAZING!!! I am imagining myself picking through them one by one…smile. The room is very cute. I know it will look great.
Is that the boobytrap shelf over the door?
I don’t understand how you and a few others can get so much painting done! We still have the primer on our walls after 3 years here.
Ooooh! A book store! I wish I could come shop. Just yesterday my hubby was sternly discussing my stacks of books. I suggested he find an apartment and come over for ‘visits’. :wink-wink: I think I’d better find more shelf space quickly. I love your house. An old farm house would be my dream home. Roo has a fireplace in her room??? Happy planting!
Bookstore, did somebody say bookstore? That is awesome!
Ooooooh!!! I want to come help paint!! :wink-wink:
I love how your books are organized. I need shelves like that. Almost every drawer, cupboard, etc. in my house is packed full of books that I cherish to much to let go.
I am drooling over your bookshelves and Roo’s fireplace. I can’t wait to see her room all finished. I’m sure it will mean a lot to her that she helped make it “her” room.
wow…what exciting times.
are you opening a book store in your barn or is it just book storage for yourselves?
oh…roo’s room looks adorable already. the wooden floor is lovely and the fireplace, windows and doors are great. just how i would love my house to look. can’t wait to see it in pink!
Wow. That’s a lot of books. Wow.
What a peaceful space
And I love how you captured the bulbs peeking out of leafy wraps, spring indeed.
Wow, great job with all the books. Some day, we hope to have such abundant shelving. Sadly, we have far too many wonderful books boxed up in closets. Looks like Roo’s room will be fantastic. I’m sure you’ll post pics of the final product, of course.
Congrats on your new hot water heater! Efficiency rules!
Wow-ee all those books moved out eh? what muscles you all must have now?! The room is looking sweet- I bet she Is loving the readying of her room!
What do you think of Great Taste? I just put it on my ‘to read’ list after reading a review of it recently (I think it was in some magazine in the break room at work…).
A lot of our rooms were that odd flesh color. Did you see Sarah’s pink and purple room (we painted it last year)? It is like a cotton candy explosion. Love the wide plank floors!
What are the white flowers? They are so pretty, as is the photographer…
I live in envy of your orchard to be and huge garden, barn and bookshelves. I cannot wait to see it all!
Ok, I’m a little confused. Are these books for sale, or a personal collection? And oh my goodness, how long have you been collecting those 4,000 books LOL
TO ANSWER THE QUESTION: These are not our personal books, these books are my inventory for my online used bookstore. I sell about 3500 books a year so I replace this stock nearly every 12-16 months.
our personal books are in the house.
Serene Tabbie: the flowers are Bloodroot and they are even lovelier when they open up.
“Great Taste” is sublime, Lily James rocks. :celebrate:
*be still my heart* those books. what heaven! I bet she is delighted to have her own space now!
Lovely post! You inspire!
Drooling over the vast amount of books and the fact that they have shelves to reside on!! You look wonderfully happy.:big-smile:
What a great room that will be for Roo!!
