Snow Melt, Friends, Movies & Blackberry Crisp
~~~~~
~The snow is melting now and the mud is beginning to emerge. Hello mud, we’ve missed you.
~Some Xanga friends came for a visit yesterday and we had a wonderful, wonderful time! Life is better when you have such good company to share it with.
~We’ve been laying low today; I have been snuggling with the kids watching “The Land Before Time” and “Spy Kids 2″ on the couch.
~We are tapping maple trees and have about 55 gallons of sap to boil down in the evaporator tomorrow (which happens to be Maine Maple Sunday)
~We had blackberry crisp for breakfast because it was left over and there was still cream and why not?
~and I sat there with my children and gazed upon them and thought how full of light they looked and how they glowed
and I was teary and grateful but mostly grateful.
He amazes me with his goodness and his gentle spirit.
She is a child of many faces; all of them wonderful
I will say that I am partial to this last one, though.
And it was Good.
Sounds like a wonderful day. Best of luck with the syrup making!
I can see why you would be so grateful. What a beautiful day!
MMMmmmmm…blackberry crisp. I wish I could come help you boil the sap! I love the smells, the warmth..the end result
I thought of you because Mary Oliver came to the Pomfret School to speak to some of the writing classes and then gave an evening reading to the Pomfret School community. She also held an open question/answer session and a book signing. I couldn’t go because of sick babies, but my girlfriend went and said she was amazing and had such a powerful voice.
Lovely! And I agree, that last picture is special-er (because they are all special)
The blackberry crisp look almost as delicious as the kids.
I like imagining toothless Jesse eating that lovely looking crisp. So sweet. Roo is a cutie in a big big way.
Oh, I needed some Julie today. You are better than gratefulness.org.
You are so good at living in the moment, as well as capturing those moments! I thank you for that.
What a beautiful-precious-glorious family you have. I hope you’re being gentle with your heart right now dear Mama. Thinking of you and your family often. Mmmmm… blackberry crisp!
Lately I’ve been feeling like life is passing too quickly and I regret that I haven’t enjoyed it enough. Thank you for reminding me to treasure the moments.
Beautiful pics — esp. the blackberry crisp!! hehe
how much syrup do you get out of 55 gallons of sap?
That crisp is really yummy looking. Gorgeous kids, I love their free spirit.
The quote is perfect!
I love the last picture of Roo!
we had strawberries and cream for breakfast…and lunch…as there were so many and the cream was delicious
That picture is GORGEOUS!! And so is she… you’re right, she’s growing right before our eyes
I wonder how well the blackberry crisp would travel by mail?
How many quarts will 55 gallons boil down to? The kids look beautiful.
by the way, I’ve succumbed to Game Boy.
BEAUTIOUS! I’m always intrigued by the idea of making maple syrup. I thought you NEasterners did that in the fall though… Isn’t a hot process?
That sounds like a perfectly heavenly way to spend the day! I can honestly say that I am more than a bit jealous. lol
SimplyPynki: we do it out in a pole barn and so it does not heat up the house.
knitsteel: 55 gallons will give us somewhere between 1.5-2 gallons of syrup, depending on the concentration of sugars. oooh, the Game Boy takes another one down! Welcome!
Sounds like a very good day.
What tremendous blessings!
In that last picture your daughter looks very much like her mother’s child. Such spirit!
hope you are doing well. let’s do another chat SOON!
TK used to say that if it had oatmeal in it, it was health food.
I LOVE that last shot of Roo!!
Wow! How many trees do you have to tap to get 55 gallons of sap?
mom2radata: we have tapped about 25 maple trees this year and that is 2-3 days worth of sap.
I love blackberry crisp more than anything… ever. (aside from my family, maybe)
