  • And I Love Him Because…

    Does it Matter?

    ~~~~~
    Jesse has been letting his hair grow; he likes the feel of it and look of it and the shelter it creates around his face.  It comforts him.  Lately, his hair has grown long enough that it creates some gender confusion with strangers and he is referred to as “she” more often than not.  He has never responded to comments or even mentioned it to me.  Today however, a very brassy saleswoman said to him, (handing him gum I paid for)
    “and this must be for you, young lady”
    and he gave her a firm stare and she said,
    “or is it young man?”
    more eye contact
    “well, which is it? You are too pretty to be a young man but your hair is just so long and…(trails off)”
    and my boy looks her in the eye and says,
    “why, does it really matter?”
    oh my heart, how I love my child.
  • you have to love her fire (no, really, you do!)
    Our Morning Roo-Ster
    Lately, Roo wakes up shrieking like she is on fire and hauls out of bed in 30 seconds to race downstairs while letting it rip,
     “I want to eat my cereal right now and the house is cold and where are my panties I want my Dora doll and Lucy is bumping me and don’t look at me but hold me and hold my hand no I candoitbymyselfdon’ttouchme arrggggh! Shriek, mutter, howl, grumble”
    This morning was no different and while my girl stomped down the stairs, Jesse looked at me and said,
    “man, that child is a verbal hurricane!”
    hurricane, indeed.
    I have no idea who she (ahem) gets it from.
  • Can You Feel The Love?
    Happy Valentine’s Day!
    Pathways
    Understand, I’ll slip quietly
    away from the noisy crowd
    when I see the pale
    stars rising, blooming, over the oaks.
    I’ll pursue solitary pathways
    through the pale twilit meadows,
    with only this one dream:
    You come too.
    Rainer Maria Rilke
    loveliness.
    On Tonight’s agenda?
    1. children who are worn out from sledding and running in snow fall asleep early
    2. dinner for two with fresh shrimp and wine and any music except for John Lithgow’s “Singing in the Bathtub”.
    3. conversation between two adults who still like each other and have an awful lot to talk about.
    4. board games
    5. bath time for grown-ups while reading “The Onion” to one another (laughter as an aphrodisiac still works, always has)
    6. break out the twister mat and see who “wins”!
    (if our evening goes as hoped, everyone wins)
  • ETA: At Bottom
    Sadness
    An unschooling friend here in Maine has a 9 year old daughter who has been battling Leukemia for the past few years and the girl (Jossilyn) is now out of remission and struggling with few options remaining.  Her mother has 6 children at home and an ex-husband who is not able to offer support.
    The Maine unschoolers group I belong to is doing everything we can to support this family, including gathering items to sell or donations or any amount.
    Here is the website and the info on how to donate is at the bottom.
    (I have donated a doll and photography session)
    You can donate an item by contacting Laura with a picture and description and price and then ship it directly to the purchaser when it sells (Laura will send you a note with an address).
    I have never posted anything like this before but would love to help this wonderful family out in any way I can.
     Last night I received a note from a fellow Xangan (who shall remain nameless on the chance she desires anonymity). She expressed her desire to help this family out and she is willing to fly here to my home in order to purchase the photo session I donated for this family.
    How amazing is that?!?!?!
    My heart brims with the generosity of others.
  • My Protected List
    House Cleaning
    (it had to be done eventually)
    The time has come for me to clean up my protected list.  It is looooong and there are a number of readers on there who have never once commented or perhaps never read me after asking to be added (incidentally, I am not asking for comments, I have no problems with those who rarely comment).
    So you know the drill, leave a note if you read and want to be on my protected list.  I will not respond directly but instead will add you to the list if I feel comfortable sharing the private parts of my life with you.
    Sorry, I know this is a pain but I have never done this before and am feeling a bit exposed lately.
    ~~~~~

    Today I am organizing the books and bedroom and trying to contain the stacks a bit more.  I just need to dig in and do it.

    Besides, Lynn will never come to visit me if it stays this cluttered.

    I’m off and running, more later.

     Giddy-up!
