  • This Has Gone Too Far

    ~~~~~
    This post is dedicated to anyone who has ever read my blog and thought,
     ”She seems like she has her act together.”
    Yeah, right.
    ~~~~~

    Let us begin with the ever-loving piles of books

    (small children need to keep their distance in case of a bookslide)

    I have to wish myself luck and break out the vaseline every time I try and squeeze my fanny down this hallway (complete with Roo’s dresser as her room is not done yet)

    still unpacking because we only just moved here

    (two years ago! )

    Thud.

    (board games, anyone?)

    From the top of the stairs looking into our bedroom

    entering the bedroom

    (see the post-it note over the bed? I am pretty sure it says something like, “clean up this room, you hoser!”)

    my crammed and crappy little craft corner, all 4′x3′ of it

    (where I have room to stretch my wings and sew, knit, paint and felt)

     nice workplace but my boss needs to get her act together!

    I think I need an intervention; this house is so disorganized I can hear Martha Stewart crying the ugly cry and she is running out of freshly pressed, embroidered hankies.

    Someone throw me a line!!!!

    SPC!

    ~~~~~
    I would like to be better at relaxing when the house is a pigpen.
    Not that I’m bad at it but I could be even better.
    It’s good to have goals.
  • Just Another Day
    Jesse creates his own lego vehicles and gives them identification numbers
    he loves his work
    Rooty-toot-toot
    And a giggle, to boot
    I was sleepy and very quiet this morning
    But then I had two cups of coffee and you could not shut me up
    (no, really, you couldn’t!)
    Survivor, Family Bed Edition
    or: “dog farts, pirate breath and the occaisional pee (Roo, of course)”
    ~~~~~

    I love our family bed, I do.  The kids sleep well and they are easily comforted after a bad dream.  On these cold winter nights, I know my children are warm.  I love to listen to them breathe softly and talk a little in their dreams and I love holding them while they rest.   They have a choice to sleep when they need to and this is the choice they make right now.

    And this is a good thing.

    But dang, it can be tricky to find a spot to land when you come to bed to find two rapidly-expanding kids sprawled out all over the place and two big dogs filling the gaps.    If I can find an edge space (prime real estate as the middle suffocates me!), I have a hard time getting full blanket coverage.  And while I don’t mind snuggling a dog, I don’t want a 70 lb one as a blanket (when this happens I wake up thinking “my legs, my legs, I can’t feel my legs!!”)   So I usually spend a few moments wrestling with the covers in order to wrench a corner out of the grip of my wee babes.

    It’s hard work, this!

    And then when Trev comes to bed, he takes the other outer sliver and wrenches the covers back in the other direction and unless I have them wedged under my bum or am gripping them in some sort of desperate death-grip, then I am laid bare and freezing my bum off.

    ah, togetherness.

    I am thinking that in order to survive the family bed sometimes one has to be scrappy.

    Luckily, I am a scrapper.

    Now, move over and give me some covers!
