    Well, That Was Quick

    (2006, that is)

    While I am not one to make resolutions around the turning of the new year; I have hopes for each one.

    This year I hoped to be with my family and have time to love each other

    and live simply and cleanly

    and explore the land around us and grow a garden

    and plant berries and apple trees for the future

    and find creative ways to work and generate enough money to maintain this life

    and welcome a new puppy

    and draw and play games and hike and camp

    and take pictures and paint and craft and

    really, really, really enjoy our lives.

    2006 was everything I wished for, and more.

    ~~~~~
    And 2007?
    well, I’m hoping for more of the same
    (only with new underwear)
    Happy New Year All!!!
  • The Good, The Mediocre & The Somewhat Shocking
    (2006 holiday edition)
    The Good
    • the Christmas Eve tingle
    • The love
    • the cookies
    • the board games
    • the funny hats
    • the afternoon naps
    • the wild and crazy holiday boogie in the kitchen
    • clean down blankets and sheets
    • the candlelight
    • the homemade pizza, crafted by my sweet husband
    • Jane Siberry’s holiday album “Child”
    The Mediocre
    • the “tingle” is a bit much for the kids who have been alternating between tears and shrieks of joy all afternoon
    • the cookies are also a bit much for the kids and they are riding the sugar train (with frequent stops and occasional crashes)
    • we are out of cheese
    The Somewhat Shocking
    • Roo climbed into the TV armoire to get closer while she was watching something on the boob tube and peed in there, all over the videos and wood and electronics.    Egads, this was a first, for sure.
    I’m off, must wear the kids out so they fall asleep at a reasonable hour; then Trevor and I can be Mr. and Mrs. Mischievous while drinking nog and finishing the cookies and causing all sorts of Christmassy trouble. “Holiday mayhem”, he calls it.
    It’s a tradition of troublemaking that goes back to our dating days.
    Hope your Eve is delightful and full of love, sweets and all the mischief you desire.
    Daily Goodness
    (or: how an ordinary life is pretty damned amazing)
    ~~~~~

    Yesterday, Jesse decided he wanted to organize his Legos.  He wanted them all sorted out by color and shape (not a small task as he has many large tubs of them with Bionicles, etc mixed in)  But, it was what he wanted and so we spent 5 hours sorting yesterday to get them into groups.  This morning, I took him and purchased 10 clear tubs to keep them in and he is one thrilled boy!

    It may not last but he is happy right now.

    And this is the thing, this joy.

    And I love to photograph him with all this wonderment and pondering

    in his deep blue eyes

    and his joy, which is so clean

    And his goofy self

    And now, with TWO teeth missing on the bottom

    and his big, big love

    he is just so sweet.

    And I spend my day with her, too

    and she is a whirl of emotion and joyfullness and fierce independence

    and she is inventing every day for herself.

    It is all of it, hers.

    A girl in motion (for Kali_Mama because she likes that sort of thing)

    And last night, after my babies fell asleep telling jokes to each other, Trev and I played games and drank wine and talked and read The Onion for hours and laughed so hard we cried.

    And he is still funny and I love him as much as ever.

    It is that simple and that amazing.

    And it is all of it, TRUE.

    Sunshine, Lollypops and Rainbows

    Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
    Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together,
    Brighter than a lucky penny,
    When you’re near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
    And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

    ~Lesley Gore
