    Happy Birthday, Jesse!

Seven years ago today, Jesse came out into the world and greeted us with bright and focused eyes.

His eyes are as bright today as the day he was born

and he is the most joyful person I know.

    I couldn't be more grateful.

Happy Birthday to my little pinon nut

(who is not so little anymore).

A Glimpse of My Latest Photo Session

(this 16 yo client wanted head shots as she is entering a "miss teen_" pageant)

I took all of these on her sun porch using natural light and my portable black backdrop.

    She is really lovely.

    Self Portrait Challenge

    (Oct: flawed parts)

    SPC!

    Here are my grey hairs,

they pop out on the sides of my temple, glowing white

and reminding me of my age.

They are not ugly, they are quite soft and shimmery.

My flaw is that I cannot yet accept them and so I dye my hair

all colors of the rainbow to avoid becoming grey.

But I am working on it.

Some days it is tricky to accept the passing of time.

  • The Ocean, Glee and Creampuffs

The boat I was on the past few days belongs to this organization and I was there to help my mother cook for 25-30 people.

    My Mom, the (sometimes) cook

(she gets her curly hair from me)

We made cream puffs and filled them with ice cream, fruit and chocolate sauce because these things are important.

The boat goes to some of the smaller, remote islands and brings medical care and library services and food, etc.  We left Northwest harbor on Mt Desert Island and headed for Frenchboro for the afternoon.  It is a small island with a summer population of about 75 people.  I was able to get off and hike around a bit and it was just lovely.  I missed the kids but couldn't go on this trip and cook and keep an eye on both of them so they stayed home with daddy.

I found all was well when I returned to homemade bread, new kid paintings everywhere, dishes done, and all three of them curled up in bed reading stories, happily.

     A duck, duck, duck

it's funny, I noticed that many of  the people on the boat were taking pictures that afternoon. They were snapping shots of the landscape and the water and one another.

I took pictures of the underside of the docks and lichen and fungi and seaweed

because that's the kind of girl I am.

(in which I toot my own horn because it's my party and I'll toot if I want to)

I just found out today that I am having an essay published in one of my very favorite magazines!  Thanks to Kali_Mama for suggesting I submit it, smooch!

I am so excited; I will be in wonderful  company.
