Jesse’s Birthday, Fall Colors, Blog Break
Jesse had a wonderful birthday yesterday; we spent the day together as a family and (at Jesse’s request) went out for breakfast and lunch, rented movies, played baseball and had cake. It was mellow and Jesse enjoyed every bit of it. Last night as I was curling around him in bed he said to me, “I had the very best birthday ever, mummy! I don’t know how you do it but you got the very best presents for me!”
oh. my. heart.
Today, we had a small party, no structure, just a few kids and relatives and a beautiful fall day in which to romp.
Jesse wanted a lego cake and so I made this
(Yes, I will understand if you laugh)
I never said I was a cake maker.
it was tasty, though
my sister, the beautiful
my sister, the goofball
time for leaf peeping.
(this is the view from our front door)
The frost has come, the garden has been emptied and the air is changing.
The wind feels clean and new.
I may take a brief blog break; this time of year I find myself thinking more deeply; taking emotional inventory and thinking about the winter to come.
I can be a bit distracted and so a break may be good.
Then again, putting it all down and sharing it can help, too.
We shall see.

Oh my! That view is breathtaking. What gorgeous fall colors. That is something I miss living where I do.
What are you talking about? Not a cake maker, ha! It’s adorable and if it was tasty then you are indeed a cake maker extraordinaire.
So glad Jesse had a wonderful birthday. What a sweet boy he is.
Unplugging is very therapeutic, but so is sharing, as you said. Whatever you decide to do, I hope it feeds your soul.
NAH! Ur a better cake maker than me then
Will keep my eye out for you when you are back – HUGS
I think the lego cake rocks. And your home looks like my home right now. Exploding with color.
Very cool cake. If you do end up taking a break – you will be missed. But I totally understand the “taking emotional inventory” thing.
The fall colors are beautiful. I am glad Jesse had a wonderful birthday.
I would have had NO trouble eating that cake. What a cute idea! Did you use cupcakes for the little “knobby” things? The party sounds perfect; our little libras are so easily pleased, aren’t they?
It is indeed the time of year for “emotional inventory.” If you take a break, I shall miss you.
*smooches*

That is totally the kind of lego cake I would make!
It sounds like a Jesse-perfect birthday was had.

The cake is cool…and better than I could do.
I love the view from your house!
What a lovely view. Very very beautiful.
They cake is fabulous. You did great! Jesse’s birthday sounds wonderful. There is such fullness in simplicity.
I love homemade cakes. My girls, having grown up on them, now make them for each other (and me) on birthdays. Each one is unique and fun! On my youngest’s party this year, we headed off to the pool with eldest set to decorate the cake she’d baked and then bring it on down. She called me nearly in tears, as she’d dropped it on the floor. She baked another and still made it to the party on time. Now THAT’s the story that’s going to be retold I can tell, the year she had to bake and decorate TWO cakes!
I think the cake looks great. I find myself doing the same thing this time of year – lots of looking inward and appreciating life
That cake is awesome!
Oh, autumn, jesse, cake, introspection– life is good. Enjoy your beautiful season.
Oh, Happy Birthday to Jesse!!! I’m sorry to be belated! The cake is wonderful – that’s so creative! And what a stunning view – how could you not enjoy it?

Fall foliage… one of the greatest things I miss about not living in Maine anymore…sniff, sniff.
Nice view but where are all the 7-11, McDonalds and Major Video neon signs?
OH. What a fantastic view. I completely understand blog breaks….Contemplation is a good thing
That cake is hysterical!! It looks like Brubby’s halloween costume last year!(he was a blue lego made with a box and coffee filters glued on!)
Great view!
happy birthday Jesse!!! Hey, it looks like a Lego to me!
Whatever you decide to do. You know what you need. I love the cake!
Hey, it’s at least as professional-looking as my wedding cake!! hahaha maybe we should open a bakery.
Happy birthday, Jesse!
The cake looks tasty! How blessed u r to have such a gorgeous view outside your front door! I think I would pull a rocking chair to the front window and rock, knit, and ponder. Enjoy your break, however I will miss reading your daily writings and pics! Take care.

Aren’t the leaves just beautiful right now??
I understand the need for turning inwards, I am going through that myself. I can say from me though if you have a break you will be sorely missed. I adore your blog, your photos are breath taking (that view truly make my heart sing) We will all be here when you get back. ((((((((HUGS)))))))))
And the cake was FAB!
Beautiful pics, that is one awesome view. Glad Jesse had a happy birthday. Be Blessed
a fine cake if I don’t say so! Better than a $20 grocery store model! Happy bday to Jesse and happy birthing day to you mama. Happy Fall.
Rachel
All that counts is that it tastes good. I have been very introspective as late also which accounts for my long break or “break-down” whatever you want to call it.
the view from your front door is amazing, you have your own personal eden. : )
Your lego cake is so cute, very creative!!! : )
Cool lego cake!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful fall colors…((swooning))

(I still come and check…in case you come in anyways…..)

Lost my comments! Understand your need for time to ponder, I feel it myself this time of year. If you will take a break, you will be sorely missed. Your blog is so beautiful and inspirational. The photo of the view from your house was breathtaking, it made me cry to see that beauty. Thank you for that!
