Candy Corn, Siren of The Dark Side
(or:”damn, these are good”)
Yes, candy corn is here again and I will spend the next month alternating between FULLY heeding the call and ignoring it.
I do love the stuff. Incidentally, I must eat them color by color, starting with the tippy tip. Am I the only neurotic one out there?
The Fair
I went back again today, alone. I went because I had so little time to peruse all the goodness on Fri as our focus was on the kids. The kids were not interested in the herbal tent or the healing arts or political action tent and so I went by myself.
My stepfather and mother were singing (well, mostly he and a friend but she joined him on a song) and they were pretty cute.
My Mum
My step-dad
It rained. It rained ever-loving BUCKETS and I spent two hours in it looking at wooden things and herbal remedies and felted creatures.
I got wet.
Here is some of the wool hand-spun yarn I bought at $4.00 a skein!!
A winter’s worth, for sure.
I came home to the sight of my children trying on their winter wear
(Trev was encouraging them to see what fits)
Tonight
Tomatoes are on the stove in the form of spaghetti/pizza sauce and I will be canning into the night. But in February when the winds whip and the outside world is blissfully white we will be eating these feasts of summer. And I will be very glad.
I like being glad, glad is good.

What a good good very great day!!!
Look at your hardwood floors! I love how wide the boards are!!!! The yarn is beautiful. What will you do with it?
Sounds like fun! What a great deal on the yarn!
I’m a-workin’ on applesauce, in my small but persistent suburban manner.
Mum n step-dad are super cute. Now I see where you initially got your values…Also on the living clean post, have you changed to the energy efficient light bulbs? Just wondering because I just got mine today and they promise to be amazing.
I eat them color by color too. It’s a 3 part process of course!
No you are not the only neurotic one – I do that too with candy corn and have ever since I last remembered… Not just with candy corns but with peanut butter cupes, Jelly Beans (hard shells first), and more…
Being can be fun
Being WET can be fun (skipped the most important word ha)
I eat my candy corn the same way. I think the white tops are the tastiest.
Glad is very good. Being glad while EATING candy corn…even better.
I usually eat them by color…….for the first handful. Then, it’s one at a time. Finally, after I can no longer stand it….it’s by the handful. I also have been known to sit and eat a whole bag of the Brach’s autumn mallocremes all at once. I am not proud, but it is the truth.
Sounds like a marvelous day.
I laughed at your “I got wet…” statement and photo. Your facial expression is soooo those words. LOL!!!
Enjoy your canning!
I am a candycorn pumpkin nut. I eat the tops off first…
$4 a skein, you hit the yarn jackpot! The fair sounds like my kind of thing. Too bad they don’t have stuff like that around here.
Candy corn is yukky. Yuck. One of the few candies I won’t eat.
I LOVE candy corn but for some reason it doesn’t agree with my diabetes. Like you I eat them color by color… White cap, yellow middle, orange bottom.
That yarn is gorgeous… I would love to try some honest to goodness hand spun wool one of these days. Will have to keep my eyes open for it. Now jsut to hope I find it for the price you did. That is awesome!
Love the wet photo!
I love candy corn too. Sometimes I eat them like that gut I get a little impatient, too……
And what a find on the yarn! Im sure the homemade tomato sauce will be tasty in the winter..
That looks amazing!! I am still in the camp of needing to move to Maine. lol Now if I could just convince my hubby…
i eat them in color order also!
Candy corn!! You just reminded me that I have a stash in the cupboard-YAY! That sounds like such a fantastic fair, and the time alone….yum.
I also love candy corn, AND I had my kids trying on their winter coats and snow pants this weekend as well. Lovely northern states…
Oh yes, that’s how I eat candy corn…
And RYC: DUST BUNNIES?? In MY house?? The horror…
oh wait, I must be thinking of someone else’s (clean) house. Yes, that definitely is a possibility. hehe
Im worse I eat them color by color and I dont like the way they taste! =)
Lovely yarn!
One of the few things I like better than eating candy corn by color, is eating stale marshmallow peeps after Easter!
what cute pics! your whole family is adorable!
As far as the chatterbox Roo issue, I have that here as well. I think it is okay to tell kids when you have your own needs to be met. I often tell Eli (or derek) “I am sorry, but my brain is full and I just can’t listen anymore.” or I will tell them they can tell me (one more or three more) things and then I need some quiet. We talk a lot about how some people need quiet. As derek has gotten older, he will now ask for his own quiet time, away from eli, and I like to think he has learned to do that because of my modeling it for him. Could you give Roo a tape recorder? She could tape all her wonderful thoughts and then the two of you could listen to them later?
Candy corn! Yum. My favorite candy, other than chocolate of course.
HeeHee..I eat candy corn like that too. It’s my favorite Fall candy.
I eat candy corn like that, too. I also love to mix it with peanuts. That’s the best way to eat it!
I eat candy corn from the tip up – I always thought everyone did – Am I neurotic?
I eat candy corn by color too. Lightest to darkest. Occasionally I’ll mix it up and eat it darkest to lightest, but that requires a lot more work.
OOO….I eat candy corn the same way. yum. My favorite, I must admit, are the little candy bars. Whooly crap.
I am alone today (after 9:00 am) for the first time in (I think) six days…
I am past excited.
I so eat candy corn like that too. In fact I ate a whole pile last night while watching TV.
MUST eat the point of candy corn first, its that a rule? Love the pics, I really want to go to the fair now!!!
your mother is gorgeous! I eat candy corn like that too…we made our first pass “it’s not time for that yet” because Will saw some in the store yesterday…
i hate what it does to me…
sounds like a wonderful, yummy day!!
Tif
It’s bad luck if you eat more than one color on the candy corn at a time.
i was at that fair friday too!!
you were close by to where i live (:
i wanted to go back again saturday or sunday
but no one would go with me.. and im not
one for going alone, especially when im
due to have my baby soon! haha anyway
i dont check this much so if you write back
i dunno when ill get it but yeah, i love the
fair! im glad you do too (:
I want so much to go to the Ren Faire in Oct./Nov. I’m trying to talk one of my girlfriends into going with *S* and I. It’s a few hours away so we’d have to stay over night, but I love a fair. It would be worth it.
Glad is good!! Looked like fun!
ooooohhhh, yummy yummy yarns! i love the little peek you give us into your life. it looks positively charmed — which i’m sure has lots to do with you.
It is a tradition of mine to eat a whole bag of candy corn, by myself, around Halloween. The stuff is like crack. Except when I’m done with the bag I’m so sick of the stuff I don’t want to see it again until next Halloween.
Your mom is too cute! What a wonderful outing just for you. The yarn is amazing and so is winter wear Roo. Can you believe we are approaching another colds season. Time zooms by…
I too love candy corn,
and the fair sounds fun. I wish the fair around here had an herbal or healing arts tent. your ma and step-pa do look cute singing there!
GASP! That is EXACTLY how I eat candy corn! And I usually eat a whole handful ( not meaning to), and then feel so sickened by all that pure sugar that I don’t want any more for a long, long time. Sigh. Dontcha love it. Lisa
oh i’ve always wanted to go to mofga. our friends up there invite us but we’ve yet to make it!
and that yarn is GORGEOUS, i especially love that pale lavender
I just went to a fair in Washington. They call fried dough Elephant Ears and call biscuits with jam on them a scone, they were deliscious, but they weren’t scones. It’s different out here.
Glad *is* good!
Pizza with homemade/homegrown tomato sauce in the dead of winter sounds deliciously cozy.
And—I do the exact same thing with my candy corn. What *is* it about the 3 colors that makes one do that??
I eat candy corn color by color as well, but I start with the orange bottom and work my way to the white tip. : )
I could never eat more than 2 or 3 before the sugar-y sweetness got to me. I always ate them real slow too, one colored layer at a time. I would collect them for my brother, they were his favorite and like I said, I couldn’t stand more than 2 or 3. . .
The yarn looks fun and the canning of summer goodness sounds wonderful!
Candy corn doesn’t excite me but that hand-spun yarn sure does! Wow…nice colors too!
Glad you had fun! That yarn is beautiful! Love seeing pictures of you and your family.
I wonder how long a person could live on a candy corn diet? That thought often occurs to me as I scarfe down a bag. Love that stuff. And it generally leaves no crumbs in the bed.
Your mom is so beautiful.
Mmmmm…candy corn….gotta go get me a bag!
The fair sounds lovely–wish I could go! And I am seriously coveting your beautiful yarn…
Take care!
Hmmm…looks like Roo is all set with jammies!! (-: You gotta love a daddy who gets his kids to try on the next season’s stuff to see if it fits. I mean, you gotta passionately love him. (and I know you do!)
What a blissful fair day for you!!!! Happy, happy!!!!
ANd here’s to sunkissed canned goodies in winter!!!
(that gave me a comfy good-all-over feeling!)
I’m posting photos of Flagstaff all this week…if you have a hankering…
(-:
Glad is good.
OMG! Your little parenties are sooo cute!!! And darling! Where’s our MP3 or YouTube of the parenties doing their songs?!!? C’mon! I’m coming over for spaghetti – I will bring 47,000 strawberries that I’m sure are inorganic and out of season and practically toxic but smelled so good I had to buy all of them.
