        Bees, Food & Anniversaries!

    *******

    Bees

    My dear husband gave me just what I wanted for my birthday; a beehive and a smoker.  We shall start with the one hive and pick up a second when we can afford it.  I know a local beekeeper who will set us up with a nucleus in the spring.  Between honey and maple syrup, our sugarbuds will be thrilled.

    Food

    Today I made 6 batchs of salsa to freeze, 15 meals of pesto and a few batches of red chili sauce. The freezer is now officially bursting and yet I always manage to find another little crevice when searching.

    It’s a gift, really.

     I love tabblo!!!! (try it, you will love it too)

    See my Tabblo>

    In photo news I have two more clients who want portraits done this month, wahoo!

    An anniversary

    I called one of my dearest and oldest friends last night to wish her a happy anniversary; we met 20 years ago this month and I have cherished her friendship always.  I wondered why we don’t celebrate these milestones with our friends and she agreed.  As she lives 6 hours away, we will plan something fun to do in the next month or so to celebrate this. I imagine chocolate, wine and great conversation will be included (they always are).

    Why not? There is little in life more important than friendship.

    ~~~~~~~
    I’m off, Roo is begging for bed (no, I am not kidding).
    And it is only 6:26 pm.
    I believe it is easy for her because it is up to her.
  • Great Tabblo Julie, I especially loved the one of lil Roo!
    As for honey, mmmmmmmmm, divine with peanut butter, or drizzled on hot popcorn. Am glad you have such a lovely husband who gets you the best pressies! Oh and I reckon we’ll see some cool bee photos next yer too….
  • what a great present! i hope we get our bees next spring…we go through gallons of it yearly.
    do you have your own dark room to develop the pictures you take? (and yay for the 2 new clients)!
  • My best friend is deathly afraid of bees… but I think they’re lovely creatures. Wasps. Well. They’re another story. But I’m very happy about your new bees :) Fresh honey is the best of best.
    Oh. And your tabblo of Roo is just beautiful. I don’t have the computer or photo know-how to create an account, but I wanted to let you know. It almost made me sad to be a grown up. But then, I still make those faces when most people aren’t looking.
  • Now that is an awesome present! BTW I shouldn’t have stopped by. I am hungry now at the mention of salsa. LOL!
  • Congrats on the bees!!  Your web page always makes me hungry….or thirsty.   Now I am thinking a nice cup of chamomile with honey…
    Thanks for the comments on my page.
  • My friend and I are celebrating being 31 year-old women. We’ve decided that to act like a 31 year-old woman we need to go for drinks and have wine.
  • Honey and maple syrup. Yum!
  • Wow!! I want to see some pics of the hive! That is too cool! I would love to be able to do that but coming from a family that is seriously allergic to bee stings, it might not be the best idea for me. lol
  • Happy Belated Birthday Julie!  And congrats on the hive.  My hubbie got me two hives for a joint Mother’s Day/early Birthday present this past Spring.  I love working with my bees.  I find it very relaxing…I just sort of get in the zone.  Just an FYI, I am working with a beekeeper who has 175 hives and he recommended the Beekeeping for Dummies book as being the best book for introductory beekeeping.  FWIW, I haven’t really read any others, but that one is well written and easy to understand.
    Also, thanks for the link to tabblo.  I had no idea that was out there.  I learn something new everyday.
  • Bees are what i am striving for!
  • 1. I *love* the hat!!!!! So cute!!! It looks great on Roobaby.
    2. I *love* Jesse’s paintings, especially the one with the stripes on the left — it is really amazing.
    3. You are doing such awesome work with the canning and freezing and whatnot!
    4. I forget what else I wanted to comment on.
    5. OH I remember. The blue children!!! Hilarious! My childrentoo are frequently strangely colorful. I think it’s like an unschooling gang tattoo. Hehehe.
    6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m glad no drama. and that you liked your presents.
    7. Your dog is funny. More so with the child. Hehehe. The compliment each other.
    THE END. :D
  • Tabblo looks great. I’m definitely going to check it out and get some of my stuff loaded. Will have to be after I get the new system all hooked up and hooked in. LOL Seeing as all my photo’s are on the external hard drive which is not connected to this system at the moment.
    Love fresh honey combs but not the bee’s. Have a great Tuesday sweets.
  • How do you do it? Every day? You accomplish MORE than I could ever imagine in my dreams! Seriously, how do you stay focused and get so much done? Do you make lists? Do you write down goals? How do you make time for xanga and/or MDC along with the gardening, taking photos, unschooling 2 children, writing amazingly interesting and funny posts every single day, and being a wonderful mother? How did you get so good at all of this? You seem so young and you’ve just got it down! Please, send over some tips or advise. I would looooooove it :0) (((bowing down)))
  • I love your husband for giving you the beehive! That’s way cool. My oldest bestest friend is only 3 hours away, maybe a bit less, but it’s so hard to get together. I work all week and am loathe to leave the girls here alone for TOO long on a weekend day. I counted up and we’ve been friends for… drum roll please …24 years. I can easily figure it out because she took me out for my 21st birthday and SHE got carded and I didn’t. (She’s 11 years older than me so was 32 when she got carded!)
  • What wonderful gifts; good friends and good hubbies!
  • Woo-Hoo!!  Bees!  We’re going to be beekeepers Julie,  how fantastic is that!?!   We are also planning on tapping trees in the spring.  I am a bit jealous of your packed freezer…
  • Now honey, too!  You are moving on up in the homesteading world.  Before we know it they’ll be chickens and goats running around!
    Fresh honeycomb…..Mmmmmmmmmmm.
  • Well, Happy Birthday to you!!  Right now I’m totally singing the song…lol…
  • YAY for bees! And 2 more photo clients, woooohooooo!
  • What a wonderful entry!
  • love the last line about it being up to roo.
    also, does hard cider that is currently bubbling in a yucky old dansani bottle count as making hard cider???
  • How cool!- Now you must read Secret Life of Bees!
  • Glad you’re getting what you want, I am still deciding what I want for my b-day :)
    Took your advice, thanks mama…
  • Yay for the bees!!  and Im sure having free choice *is* what makes it soo easy for Roo to choose when to sleep.
  • I am glad your birthday was so nice…and that you got bees!  Wonderful!
  • Sweeeeet!!! I want to have your freezer stock!!! ;)
    There isn’t much better than FRESH pesto and salsa! Yum!
    I will be heading to check your Tabblo out.
    Hope you get to share your new photos of your next sitting with us here in Xanga land!
    Have a great day!
    Kimberly
  • I was begging for bed at 6:26 too!  But, unfortunately, I was still at work…
    ack!
  • Happy Birthday to YOU!!!! What wonderful, thoughtful gifts!!
  • Were you born with a camera as an extra appendage?  Or do you just happen to have it with you at all the right moments?
    When you grew up were you taught how to harvest wild edible plants, how to garden and make cider, and juice and freeze and can bounties from your garden?  Or did you have to learn these things on your own?
    When I think of Maine, I think of my grandmother.  She grew up there.  Her parents were poor alcoholics and they moved around a lot.  She was the oldest of nine children.  She was only about five feet tall and a hundred pounds maybe, but she was tough.  Even though she moved away form Maine in her late teens she never lost her accent.  You know, the one where they don’t pronounce their ”r’s”.  Poc the ca around the conah  - translation - park the car around the corner.   And we would always cracked up when she said fork.  She was a fun person and I remember her saying what she missed the most about Maine, besides family, was the seasons.  We don’t have real seasons here in western Oregon like they have back there.
  • Your husband and kids are lucky to have such an interesting and fun person in their lives.
  • Cool gift! Who’d have thought of it, besides someone who knows you so well?!? Hope the rest of the year ahead is even better than your birthday was for you. Lisa
