    Here we go Looby-Lou

    (or: Back From Camp)

Here we are, back from a few days of canoeing and fishing and sleeping.

We came home to a brimming garden and I have spent this afternoon freezing broccoli, simmering down tomatoes into pizza sauce and harvesting the last of the corn for eating/freezing.

We are glad to be home.

Tomorrow we will spend with our (hard-to-find-and-ever-so-precious) local unschooling friends; it will be wonderful for the kids and even better for their mamas.

    Pictures will be taken.

On Wed, I have a photo shoot with a less-than-a-week-old baby.  Her mama wants shots of her babe with umbilical stump still attached (fingers crossed that it remains).

    Could I be more lucky?!?

  • Looks like it was a great time… and to return to a garden full of things ready to pick and prepare… I wanna come back as your next dog. :)

  • That sounds like a wonderful picture opportunity.

I’ve been reading on “unschooling” b/c the thought intrigued me, if i ever have kids (and that’s a big if) that sounds like a great way to “teach”. The kids here are only being taught for specific tests and being stressed out b/c if they don’t pass the test they dont pass the grade. They are kept back no matter how well the did they entire year. I never did well on standardized tests as a kid and I got sick every test time. I always compare that thinking with putting a gun to your head being told if you don’t do well, your dead. Yikes.

also, they’ve gotten rid of PE, music class, art class and YARD PLAY! they’re getting rid of  recess!! Just so they have extra time to teach for standardized testing.

    these people are insane.

  • I love the last picture.  So beautiful.  Have a wonderful gathering!

  • Enjoy your week; it sounds like so much fun!

  • Amazing pics! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend and are planning on an even better week! Can’t wait to hear how the unschoolers get together goes or the photo shoot. *hugs*

  • We missed our camping trip this year. I’m glad you all had a good time.

    The salamander is beautiful.

  • Good stuff! That last picture is breathtaking.  That girl might just end up being a model if you don’t watch out!

  • thank you :)

    i so enjoy your photos.

and we have read many many of the same books. have you ever read oranges are not the only fruit by jeanette winterson? such a good book! i don’t know if someone else recommended it to you but you should find it and love it :)

  • The unschooling stuff is fascinating. I try to let my kids follow their interests in their non-school time and feel lucky that we have fantastic schools in our town. Definitely structured but good.

  • You always have the most beautiful photos. I so much enjoy reading your blog everyday. I wish you lived near me so I could hire you to come take pictures of my babe, lol. Glad you had a good weekend!

  • Welcome back! I’m always amazed at how much you can get done in an afternoon! That squirrel is so cute. She does need a sling. :)

  • You are an amazing photographer!  The tomatoes certainly are poppin!  I have another beautiful set of jars on my table this morning, ready for the pantry shelves.

    Blessed be…

  • I want to respond to your last entry about books, but unfortunately work is calling my name!! argh! I’m supposed to be able to dedicate about an hour of work time to blogging!!!

    I’ll be back!

  • unscoholing friends & their mamas… I KNEW we’d be friends irl! ;)

fingers crossed for that baby cord… my son (10) is always fascinated by the ambilical cord.. so I can’t wait to see your pictures and share them with him!! (toes crossed too.. for goood measure!)

sounds like you had a lovely camp out! =)

  • Awwww……I have a spare sling around here somewhere…. (-: I have never seen a squirrel move her babies before! Does she do it sort of stealth-like, or on plain view? And Lucy seems ever-so-vigilant! (what are you feeding her, anyway? She’s so big, already!)

I learned something about umbilical stumps from a British midwife. She said the fastest way to have a stump fall off is to clean it with water..plain water. The way to keep it on longer is to use alcohol. She said further that she doesn’t understand why we in The States use alcohol…because it “pickles” the stump..it preserves it and keeps it on longer. (and sure enough, my friend’s baby’s stump fell off within the week with using just plain water)

So maybe your friend can pickle the stump till your photo shoot….
    (-:

  • Oh, if mommy okay’s it…I hope we get to see your beautiful pics of the new, new baby! As always, amazing photos!

  • Wonderful photos!  How cute that you got a pic of the mama and baby squirrel.  She does need a sling.  hehe Have a great day, I hope to see the pics of the new babe.

  • Our biggest dog likes to catch squirrels, so whenever we see a squirrel in the yard we always yell “run for your life”.

    Lovely pictures.

  • Those squirrel pics are precious!

Can’t wait to see the new baby.

  • Those squirrels are so cute. :) And is that the rocket that hit you in the eye?????

  • The first time we saw a squirrel doing that withe her babies the kids freaked out.  They thought she was eating them!

  • I love all your pics.  It looks like y’all had a great time!  I love the salamander, beuatiful.
