    A Good Day

    *****

Today was good.  Grandpa (Trevor’s father) came for 6 hours and played with the kids for every minute of his visit. They laughed and played board games and ran in the grass and worked on puzzles and watercolor paints and ate peanut butter sandwiches together and looked for worms in the yard.

    Perfect.

Me?  I finished sorting through 4000 books, did some weeding in the garden, washed 5 loads of laundry, baked bread and cleaned the kitchen.

    Perfect.

After Grandpa left, Roo and I went down to the garden to look for more worms

     (her passion).

    The green beans are up.

    The onions are up.

my herbs are coming along, as well.

What is this in the garden?

    A nutweed?

    A monkey vine?

Whatever it is, it’s growing faster than anything else!!!!

  • :fun: Nutweeds and Monkey vines DO grow faster than anything else as you just said – Guess we are learning while we are feeding them.    How do you grow onions?  Same way as garlic I would assume?  But do I need “NOT” to cut up the onion down to it’s core for food then use the core as the planting – or is it necessary to leave it as a whole.  Plus herbs, I am totally stumped because I have spearmind growing fast and have no clue how to do homemade tea or when to cut anything from any herbs.  Impulsive wasn’t I? :p

  • duh oh – I meant do I need “NOT” to cut or can I and still use the core to plant :sleepy:

  • hahaha, I clicked over to see what this mysterious and interesting monkey vine or nutweed looked like! I’ve got three of the southern variets of that plant, and never knew what they were officially called! ;)

  • How hilarious!  She is growing so fast!  I love her expression in that last pic.

Glad you and the kids had such a fun AND productive day.

  • OMG, that is one gorgeous little girl!!!
She gets sweeter and sweeter with every pic.
It’s always nice to get some relief, isn’t it?

  • Love the quote.  I am baking bread today too.  Carrot Bread.  I can smell it baking right now, mmmmm.  I think bread baking is one of the most comforting smells on this earth.  Your garden is lovely, weed and all

    p.s. you have beautiful dirt!

  • I have added you to my unofficial top 10 list of fave posts to read!

  • LOL!! She is just too cute!!

  • Oh wow, some of those plants came in fast! Could it be that they will soon grow faster than Monkeyvine? Might happen but they will never be as cute to look at. :)

  • What a blessing to have time to get things caught up while the kids are having a wonderful time as well!

The garden looks super! And that otehr thing growing in there… the fast one… the best looking in the lot!  :goodjob:

    K~

  • We have rather large and aged nutweeds and monkeyvines in my garden, as well as the sprouts!  Love your pics, and envy your garden space.  Roo is a total cutie pie!

  • You are wonderful (=  I am glad you are feeling better.  Happiness is a decision.  I agree.

  • What a wonderful post! I loved reading it. I’m glad to hear you got some time (and support) to do what you wanted to. :heartbeat:

  • Love the quote! Your garden looks great! Glad you had a good day.

  • Good to see pictures of your garden and it’s growing things.  We’re having a tremendous amount of rain here in Vermont which is cramping my style when it comes to reclaiming my garden.  I planted my peas yesterday.  I’d be late anywhere else, but the climate at this elevation will support the peas quite nicely.  That is, if the seeds don’t drown first.  Blessings abound

  • those monkeyvines are taking over my garden! any idea on how to control them??? hee

glad to hear you were able to find someone to come play with your kids that you didn’t have to pay! brilliant!

  • Wow! That garden sure got a great start!

    Your dd is so adorable!

  • My goodness, look at that perfectly weed free garden.  How do you do it all?

  • woah! things are coming up perfectly!!!

  • the plants look great! I was wondering, are they organic? if so where do you get them?! I can’t find onions anywhere. and I wqent thru all this trouble to make sure my dirt was organic (and i to bring in dirt b/c I didn tknow how to fix my solid clay to eb workable!) and it was SO expensive so I dont wanna ruin it.

  • your posts always make me happy….:sunny:

  • Hello.  Saw you hit my site in the footprints coming over from my darling girl.

That’s a good grandpa.  World needs more of them.  nice garden.

  • Is it very warm now in Maine? Summer seems only to be just arriving here in the UK so my stuff is still tiny!

Glad you had some time to catch up with stuff. How come you have so many books? Are you a book dealer?? and that is a lot of laundry!!

  • Wonderful garden!

  • Henne Penne: I buy the majority of my seeds from here and then here  (they are both local and have a good selection of organic).  Some of the plants I raised indoors and the rest I bought from local nurseries (the brassicas, mostly). They are 75% of them organic.  We get manure from a dairy farm that is certified organic. The onion sets came from Fedco and were organic but they are hard to find!!

    how about here?

  • Hey Julie… I have a question/favor to ask of you…

Would you consider “blogging” about your kitchen?  I am in the midst of making some changes; rearranging, organizing, cleaning… and I am looking for fresh inspiration for a humble, green, frugal kitchen.  I just have a feeling that your entire house is green, kind, warm and wonderous.

Would you have time to click a few pics and share a few tips?  I am pretty sure I am not the only loyal follower/voyer who would love a peek in your cupboards!

  • yeah for green beans. mine are up too..my poor husband has to endure my daily points and oos and ahs of their seemingly minute progress! it is wonderous and miraculous to me still… :sunny:
you know though, my cukes are just producing these little tiny cukes that aren’t really progressing. I’m harvesting them as little ones for now until they start showing a bit more healthy progress…they start out fine and then get yellowish, which they shouldn’t. I’m considering doing a second sowing…I think it was a mistake to start them indoors…what do you think? I used the same type last year and had great ones…so that’s the only thing I can think of as problematic…

  • I really like your site its pretty, diffrent :goodjob:

    <3ari

  • HAHAHA!!!! The expression on her face is positively maniacal. I love it. Who is teaching that child to be so free with her joy!!! And all that rain seems to be doing your garden some good. It looks so TIDY and perfect. All those little beanyweenies!!! Yay! :)

  • Im so glad you had a good day – it sounded WONDERFUL!
And Roo is such a cutie. The last picture just cracks me up.

  • :sunny::fun:  Oh that Roo is growing like a weed.  your garden is awesome!  Blessed Be

  • What a wonderful grandpa.  More great memories.

Sometimes I share your pics with my dh, but if he sees your garden, he might start thinking ours should be that weed free.  Maybe I should head outside to remove weeds before it gets too hot…

And your little girl is just so beautiful!

  • thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! That IS a good day! :)

Maine is looking beautiful! As is Roo. Ah–she just glows!

  • Cute little sprout. Nice veggies, too.

  • Indeed! Roo as sweet as ever!

  • Wow, not even knowing what’s in that garden, it still looks like the kewlest freaking learning garden I’ve ever seen someone take the time to take the time on.  Your kids are bound to be nifty people.

  • Ruby is soo precious, I love that face!!  your kids grandpa sounds so fun!!  glad you had such a peaceful, productive day.  :heartbeat:

  • what a great day, what a worker bee you are:)
RYC: thank you , just knowing you understand and don’t judge, helps. much. (((Hugs)))

  • ARE YOU A GOOD PERSON?
Hi there. I have a question for you. Would you consider yourself to be a good person? Most people would right?
Have you ever lied? What does it make you when you lie? A liar right?
Have you ever stolen anything, even something small? What does that make you? A thief right?
Have you ever murdered anyone? Jesus said that if you hate someone you have already committed murder in your heart. That’s pretty serious huh?
Have you ever used God’s name in vain? You know like saying God D**n or Jesus Christ in frustration or anger. The Bible calls that Blaspheme and God said He will not hold someone guiltless who takes the Lord’s name in vain. Pretty serious huh?
If you died tonight (you have no control over your next breath or heartbeat) and God judged you based on His standard of good, would you be innocent or guilty?
If you are judged guilty of breaking God’s law, would you go to Heaven or Hell?
You may be one those people who at this point says “well God knows my heart and He will forgive me because I am basically a good person” or “God is forgiving right and if I admit I did wrong and say im sorry He will just forgive me right?”.
Please think of how a courtroom works. Let’s say you committed several serious crimes and have a $1,000,000 fine or you will go to jail for the rest of your life. Now let’s say you have confessed to the crimes as you did a moment ago to the lying, stealing, hating and blaspheme. You say to the judge “I am really sorry and I won’t do it again and I know you’re a good judge so I expect you to just let me go and not punish me for the crimes”. What do you think a good and just judge would say to you? He would say “your right you did wrong, you should have known better, and you’re right I am a good judge so I will make sure that justice is done and find you guilty”. It won’t matter in that courtroom how good you think you are or how many good things you have done. You will be found guilty as charged. Likewise you would be found by a Holy God to be guilty and spend eternity in Hell.
You also may be that person that says “well God knows my heart and the judge doesn’t so God will be more merciful”. Actually the fact that God knows your thoughts and intentions works against you, not for you. He knows all the selfish, hateful, lustful, arrogant, evil thoughts of your mind and takes all of them into account when finding you guilty. Imagine if I could implant a chip in your head that could record all your thoughts, words, and actions the last month and show them to your parents or friends. You would be very embarrassed and not be able to claim that you are “good” at heart. The Bible says”
Rom 2:5-6 But because of your hard and stubborn heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.  He will render to each one according to his works  Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
God in His goodness is just and Holy and must punish for sin.

God gave you a conscience to know right from wrong. The word “con” means with and “science” means knowledge. When you lie you know you are doing wrong, no one has to tell you. When you steal you know you are doing wrong, no one has to convince you of that.
Think about the fact that you never have to teach a child to lie, steal, cheat, be selfish or hurt others. Its natural, more specifically called a “sin nature”.
Do you know what the Bible says God did so that you would not have to go to Hell? He gave His only son to die on the cross so that He could give you life. He paid your debt so that you wouldn’t have to go to Hell. If there was anyway we could get to Heaven and be in God’s presence based on our own goodness then Jesus dies for no reason. If He died for no reason that would be a mean God wouldn’t it. Jesus said “Luke 13:3  unless you repent, you will all likewise perish”.
The key is to REPENT which means to turn from your sin and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. He died on the cross and bared the weight of all the sins of the world so that we could pass from death unto life. It is not enough to just tell God you’re sorry and say you believe in Him. You must turn from your sin and place your faith in Him your creator. God in His mercy does not wish that any perish and go to Hell but that all would come to repentance and trust in Him. You have a choice. God doesn’t make anyone go to Heaven and He doesn’t make anyone go to Hell. It is free will. If you know Him already then take this as a reminder of how important it is to share our faith. My email is camesters@hotmail.com.
