Other Planting Adventures
we put in 30 raspberry plants
(10 each of three kinds)
We planted 16 new apple trees (all old heritage varieties) in the orchard
(before Trevor left)
this orchard is 75+ years OLD!
(and two more pear trees)
I have no idea how I did all this gardening with Trevor gone, but I managed and it’s done
and I am very, very happy!!!!!!
Oh wait, I do have one large bed left, whatever shall I fill it with?
Potions
(violet magic goodness)
dandilion wine
(take two quarts of dandilion petals and boil with cloves, orange/lemon/lime juices, and sugar for an hour. Then add yeast and let sit in uncorked bottles in a dark place for 4 weeks and then you can cork.)
(I know what I’ll be drinking on Christmas!!!!)
Now it’s time for some arnica and one of these!
(if you come help me weed, I will share!)

I want to make dandelion wine, too!
Yay! I love your garden, and you weren’t kidding about the cuteness!
Your garden is what my husband would love – he just gets a small patch of yard now. One day I hope he can be a country boy again and have his dream garden. I wish that muchly for him.
I bow before you, oh Garden Goddess! I am but a wishful diva in your shadow…
Oh how wonderful!
What a gorgeous little tyke you have!!!
The cuteness was amazing! She is so adorable, and her hair is getting long!
i would love to come help weed!!!
i have made dandelion wine before! it was my first experience doing something like that, it was fun.
I had dandilion wine one Christmas, it was not a good scene:lol: My dh who was my boyfriend at the time was so emabarrassed, because I was drunk and could not stop laughing, I only had two glasses, but I think my mum put too much sugar in.
We have a similar tall structure(the flat one) for climbing beans, cucumbers like it too, and then i can find them easier.
Lovely everything Julie! You did all that gardening alone? Wow – you rock! Where abouts do you live? It’s beautiful – great photo of the Feet. Darling pics of your girl :sunny.
Oh My Goddess! That is one Big Beautiful Brilliant Garden, You are a gardening goddess! You are growing so many wonderful veggies! I am in awww over here! Roo is such a doll, her smile is contagious!
Color me very very impressed! :coolman:
Roo is the cutest!
WOW, you go mama! That’s awesome!!! I know nothing about gardening, does the whole garden die in the winter? Will everything be ready to eat before then? Glad you got it all done- you are superwoman!
I can barely stand the cuteness! What a bountiful garden!
OMG those are all plants I have only dreamed of. I thought the fruits only grew in supermarkets!
What kind of flowers are those? They gorgeous!
Damn you are the frontier wonder woman. As I type, dh is out front weeding. I’ll have to try the dandelion wine. Sounds interesting. Have you made it before? Does it keep well?
Dang. I was feeling good for my few measly little raised beds with tomatoes, peas, beans, herbs, garlic (coming out in June), cucumbers, pumpkins, and squash. Oh, and turnips. Trying those for the first time this year. My small little suburban yard does have 14 fruit trees though! I only planted two of them. The rest were here when we moved in. You rock!
Can I take a raincheck and help you weed when we’re up in August?
Looks fantastic…that’s A LOT of work! Our one lonely raised bed pales in comparison!
geekagirl, those are lily of the valley and they smell like heaven! Roo picked her own little bouquet of blossoms and was so delighted and proud carrying them around
geekagirl, does it keep? ummm….sure, if you don’t drink it.
I will drink it.
oooooooooooooh! i want to live there so badly!!!!!!! that is like the garden of my dreams, my husband just said don’t worrying one day we’ll be living like that
i can only hope!
:goodjob:
Wow, that sure is a lot of gardening!!! Beautiful!
maybe next year i’ll get around to trying to make dandelion wine…our dandelions have already petered out over here in the hot, humid midwest.
great pictures! thanks for sharing. i love your garden.
Julie Julie Julie… to wake up there every day and over look all that land… that 1st garden shot, over looking the hills way off… so perfect, Any old pics with snow? I am sure it is wonderful!!!I am seriously green with envy.
Wonderful sweet pictures of Roo… the new camera?…. are you getting used to it quite well? How does the battery pack last?
All that gardening, you shame me !!! :goodjob: I must throw myself into the yard tomorrow, for I am lagging a great deal… and you have reminded me of how very much

Holy Manure!! Every day you impress and inspire me more. You are awesome. I’m off all summer, I’ll come visit and help you weed
wowza!
Your garden is amazing!!! I only have a 10×10 community garden plot and a small backyard herb garden to work with. All that space. And what a view!
I greatly enjoyed the cuteness. And you already answered the question I had – about the flowers Roo was holding. There are some growing out of the wall in my back yard!
I messed around and let all my starter plants croak before getting them transferred outside.
I am so jealous of your beauty, but definately impressed with all that hard work!
Such a beautiful daughter, and what a fantastic garden too! You are really set! I’m another who’s planning on making dandelion wine. Yum! I’ve made violet and dandelion vinegars(so pretty!), candied violets, and violet jam, but wine…..mmmm. Yarrow beer is also high on my list of concoctions to try.
P.S. I really enjoy your blog :)
I hope you know how truly wonderful you are. You are an amazing creature and always inspire me.
Roo looks like a prairie angel with her bouquet of flowers but the photo of your feet in the dirt just spoke to me in some organic, pure way! I love those pictures. :goodjob:
Gardening is awesome. Is this a garden just for the family or a market garden? Keep posting garden pics! Every time you post about something related to your land, it helps renew my strength in getting out onto some land as soon as it becomes feasible.
That’s impressive!!! What an amazing garden – and you did all the work! Wow! You’re very inspiring!!!! Husby and I look at the photos of your garden and land and keep high hopes that we will have our own dirt and land one day. Adorable pictures of Roo, too. Take care and hope you enjoyed the stout! :goodjob:
Holy cow!
That must have been so much work, but I bet it was a labor of love too. Amazing, really amazing. Your wee one is radiant.
WOW, well done and what a fantastic garden. When I was younger I imagined living somewhere like you do and raising my kids – hmmmm, turned out different but I LOVE your blog because I know someone is living the dream. We are happy, it’s just sooo beautiful where you are and your kids look so free with all that space. Maybe I should go camping more to give them that space! Oh and I love Roo’s floral clothes. The full length photo reminded me of little house on the prairie! Hugs and rest now xxxxxxx
bellydancer: it is for us, primarily, but we have friends we barter with, as well.
And I can/freeze as much as possible!
CLMama: we are in central Maine
Ocean_Momma_6: the battery pack is wonderful and I’m very happy with how long it lasts. I have picked up an extra for when I am out and don’t want to conserve but have not needed it, yet.
Darn. I was hoping you would come help me weed, and bring some dandelion wine. Your garden is incredible! And hail the cuteness! Our lillies are gone, daddy, gone.
I have chocolate for you. I’m hoping to get it in a box and out to you today.
Wow! Really…that’s all I can say…Wow!
I can relate to the dirt on the feet. I asked Zach to come out with me to put out the compost this morning and I was holding the front door and he was going to put on tevas…I looked at him…me barefoot and pregnant, holding the pail and we both went barefoot. “oh, it’s wet out..”, he whined. it was 7 am…he got over it. oh, the dew and dirt feel so soft and good…
who needs a pedicure???
I am floored by the hugeness of your garden – it is so awesome!
Is there something in the Maine air that gives unending energy? Besides being a beautiful state! But by yourself. You must have pioneer spirit. I’m ashamed to admit my husband does most of the planting – I did plant the onion sets and lettuces. Please keep showing us photos. Your place is so beautiful, and looking at photos of it gives me more to dream about.
What a beautiful garden! I am totally jealous of how neat and tidy it is…mine is such a jumble. Roo looks like a ray of sunshine, doesn’t she? I’m jealous of the dandelion wine as well. I need a tall glass of wine.
Your little Roo is so sweet, and your garden is amazing and inspiring. Next year I want to grow a great big garden, too!
CUTE!
Everything is so lovely and green! What’s arnica? Black Fly Stout? OMG! I’ve been weeding here. Does that count?
Wow! That is going to be one awesome garden! That is hard work! Coodos!!! Or whatever it is they says these days! It is definately something to be proud of your accomplishment!!!!
goodness gracious
I think I’m only growing roses & weeds.
Is this just for your family? LOL – my friend just did a 10 x 20 for three families – What state do you live in though? Would have loved to help you weed so I could get my hands on those goodies!!! :sunny:
I’m tired just reading about all that you did! Come harvest time, I’m sure you’ll be wondering why you planted so much!
oh Ruby is so precious. and your garden is awe inspiring. if I still lived in the northeast I would be so willing to help weed. but then, Id be busy with a nice garden of my own. sigh. Im not used to this crazy desert gardening thing. my tomatoes came out great but I lost all my spinach and kale, and I planted my peppers and zucchini too late. :whocares: and your orchard is just lovely. I miss my raspberry patch, in VT there are wild raspberries, blackberries and caps everywhere. and elderberries. I miss that soo much!! Im sure the kids love helping with the picking and eating.. :heartbeat:
Your daughter is really so beautiful.
