    Dem Fumes, Dem Fumes

    (now with smell-0-rama!!!)

    ~~~~~
    Day 2 of the floor project
    I put time into more sanding and stained about 1/3 of the room
    I want it to look old and it does
    tonight I will put on polyurethane if the stain has set.
    *****
    This morning we went out and played in some violets,
     there were so many you could smell them everywhere you wandered.
    Intoxicating.
    We ran down to the garden
    the garden
    And did some swinging
    and wished for a few things
    mostly, we are pretty happy with what we have.
    Additionally…
    Why are so many folks afraid of fidddleheads?
    They’a wicked tasty and really quite cunnin, ayuh.
    (said in a Maine accent)
    My camera comes tomorrow!
    (note to self, remember to put on clothing BEFORE UPS dude arrives)
  • Woohoo! Congrats on the pending arrival of your camera….again. I know that you are going to love it!
    Love the new pics! We get a ton of violets here and for something so small, the smell is very cloying. What all are you growing in the garden. And I LOVE the hardwood floors! They look gorgeous!
  • i LOVE the pictures!!! and the one with the flowers in her hair. too pretty!!
    the floor looks wonderful, i do staining on furniture and things of that nature, I think I’d go loopy if it was an entire floor!
  • Excited to see what you do with the new camera!! Amazing that you’ve hand-sanded the floors. You must be STRONG! I did our small upstairs bedroom after we moved in and thought I would die from exhaustion. I was too scared to use polyeurathane, though — I just stained and then waxed them. I like the way it makes the floor like bare and natural.
  • That tree…that tree!!!!  I love the new scratch-and-sniff xanga feature…cool!
  • The floor is looking great, and your garden…..WOW!  I wish I could smell those violets.
  • :lol:  to the UPS!
    The floor is lookin gooood! :wink:
    Looks like you all had fun today!
  • Beautiful pictures! Your floors are lookin’ good!
  • the floor looks great!
    I love the pics of Roo with the flowers in her hair. So, so pretty!
  • I’m afraid of any plant that’s cunning.  I mean, is it going to steal my credit cards and put me into debt??  I can see what’s going on in those little heads of theirs.  What kind of a plant has a head anyway?
    besides lettuce.
    ok and cabbage
    but stilll…
  • The floor looks GREAT!
  • We’re afraid because they have HEADS and they fiddle with their heads.  That and they might be yankee democrats or something.
    There.  I’ve said it.
    Oh the PMS is killing me.  Must drink.
  • I can hardly wait to hear about the new camera!  The floor looks wonderful – that is our summer project here, but we are chicken and will probably rent a floor sander
  • geekagirl: it’s “cunnin” not cunning.  Cunnin’ is Maine-speak for wicked cute little thing.
    as in: “look at Martha’s cunnin new baby”
    “ain’t that a cunnin puppy, I could eat him up like a biscuit!”
    Fiddleheads are not sneaky but they are cute.  I like to eat cute things.
    corn has ears, maybe it can hear you eating it?
    and potatoes have eyes so they can watch you take bites out of them.
    and some squash have “necks”!
    Must go to bed, the fumes have made me giddy.:lol:
  • SugarMama02: I will post about the garden soon, I am planting a great deal in the next few weeks. June 1st is our first frost free planting date so I am wayyyyy behind every other gardener here in blog-ville.
    I have planted cold crops however, snow peas, shell peas, spinach, swiss chard, lettuce, carrots and radishes.
    more to come!
  • the floors look so great!!! We had wood floor growing up and i miss them.. now we have yucky cheapo peel and stick “tile” and soe carpet. BORING!
    the outfit she’s wearing looks just like some you sent Eva! I love it! where did you get them?
  • p.s. I am way behind planting too… (our season starts May 10th) too many rainy/sick/busy days! oh well…
  • Look at your garden.  I soooo want your garden…to sit in it and touch it and grow in it.  I love that garden!  Your land is beautiful and your babies – can they BE any sweeter?
    Good luck being clothed for the UPS guy.  Our UPS man has seen my right breast – yes, hanging out of my shirt and flapping in the wind.  It was lovely. Ugh!
  • I love spring!  It looks like you guys are having such a great time!
  • nice floor..thats what I need to do with the guestroom/nursery…. so much to do! I thought at one point of naming Bella, Violet..so darn cute those pics as per usual…
    take care!:sunny:
  • i want fiddleheads.
    im saying “pooh” to the first frost free week here-global warming has things so screwed up that im growing corn this year, and putting everything into the ground this week.
    do you have moose in your part of maine? cause the moose here would just jump right over that fence around you garden. do you guys have problems with that?
  • Gorgeous pictures!!
  • Mmm… smell-o-vision.
  • nutmeggmama: we DO have moose but the fence is 6 feet high and I don’t think moose can jump that high. (it’s the deer we worry about, though)
    and the EVIL woodchucks who are bad, very, very BAD!
    we have bear, too, but they just poop and walk away.
  • HennePenne: the dress she is wearing is by Cornelloki, my very favorite!!! I found it at a goodwill (what a find because they are fairly pricey when new) and adore the print.
    look at these!!! the loveliness…
    sigh.
  • You are sooooooooooooooooooo awesome! The floor is looking great and I love that swinging tree!!! I can’t wait to see what you do with the camera either! I have ferns all over my property,I don’t know which kind except I love them so much! I’d eat them if they were fiddleheads I suppose,we eat stuff we know is safe if the kids feel like it!(dandilions leaves are a fav right now)
  • The floor looks fantastic! Did you pick violets to eat? Yummy!
  • Those pics of Roo are cunnin’.  ;)   (See, I speak Mainese too.)
    *sigh* I love where you live.  Can I come swing on your rope swing?
    The floors are looking great.
  • :fun: Look at that sweet little Roo!  She is a goddess in the making, and she has a wonderful teacher, you rock, mama.  The floor looks awesome.
  • Yes, do dress before the UPS guy arrives! Reminds me of the time a couple months ago when I signed for a Fedex package in the middle of nursing the babe–would have been fine except I had popped the babe off, but didn’t readjust my shirt! :lol: Love those floors!
  • So envious of your flooring skills – what a great project!
    Violets *happy sigh* what joy!  One of the prettiest (and most underrated) flowers in my opinion.  One of my close friends is pregnant and if she has a girl she’s naming her Violet – I love that!
    best wishes!  enjoy that new camera!
  • that swing looks ma-volous. (In a Billy Chystal accent.)
  • Oh my heavens that swinging picture in your forest there makes me absolutely green with envy! :love: Love the violets in her hair too. I’ve had those experiences with the UPS guy too. I bet they love thier job lol.
  • That floor is lookin’ good!
    Fiddleheads look like spiney green monsters. I’d still eat them, but I’m not sure I’d want a big poster of them hanging above my bed or anything ;)
  • Your little girl is amazingly beautiful.
