Head For The Hills, Mama Has A Paintbrush!
*****
Trevor has gone to look for snakes once more. He loves to go; when he is out in the fields and woods and deserts looking for creatures, he is in his element.
However, when he leaves for more than a day or two I am often possessed to paint and do major house changes.
(Last summer I had a chimney torn down while he was gone, among other things)
I don’t know why I do it,
but that never stops me.
the living room when he left:
Now:
(you can see where I have not yet finished on the left of the stove)
oh blessed mother of all things orange-y
and persimmon-filled-goodness
And the bathroom before:
And now:
(texture, I’m a sucker for it!)
~~~~~
And in the “very-small-but-still-making-me-happy” category,
I painted the kitchen chairs with a burgundy stain
(they were plain old oak before)
The only problem with improving one part of a room is that the other, more flawed parts begin to call attention to themselves.
Next time he leaves, I’m re-finishing the living floor!
(shhhh, don’t tell him though…)
I am moving in with you! I take coffee at 9:00, tea at 3:00, and meals outdoors. I love you!
Hahahahaha! I was FIRST!
I love it, mama! Wow!
love it.
Where the hell do you find the energy? I’d like a bottle or two, please!
very nice! you got so much done! I kept scrolling thinking, more? It all looks so beautiful.
one thing I don’t seem to understand is how… how you possibly manage to do that with the kids around… and not kill them in the meantime??? =P
when I take on household projects the kids go crazy. they sense I am up to no good and the refuse to let me accomplish anything so I do little when Sean’s not home b/c it ends up far to frsutrating for me!
How did you do all that so fast?! Every room in my house needs paint but the thought of actually doing it is overwhelming.
I love what you’ve done. Absolutely love it!
I love the orangey colors!!
Good for you!!! I would have never tried orange on the walls but it looks fabulous! Did the kids help? Do you think he’ll like it?
ooooh i love that orange, it’s so warm and welcoming! i can’t wait to have our own house to paint away in!
Nice!!!!
How does he react to the big changes?
Those colors are so dreamy. I love red furniture – those chairs are super homey. Oh, to sit in one of those chairs, curled up with a good book.
your place looks so welcoming and comfortable…. warm and inviting. I like the colours youve chosen they go well together.
it looks great!
does he ever come home and wonder if he’s in the wrong house???
I couldn’t even muster a duster today! Woot for you!
Love the chairs! It would have taken me two days in the paint store just to decide on a color.
you sound so much like my mom! when my dad would go off on a business trip while her school was out for vacation, she’d tackle those kinds of projects… stripping and refinishing the floors, repainting rooms, reupholstering chairs, etc
It was always fun to watch…and then to see my dad’s reaction when he got home LOL
Ooooh pretty! Will you come and do my house??
Gorgeous!
I love what you’ve done with the colors!
I love your tub!
I LOVE the persimmon!!!! I want to have my own house and paint the walls…
Wow, you are quick!! Love the color choices, especially the red chairs! And your living room looks fabulous – so bold and warm! Actually, very similar to the colors in our bedroom, the painting of which I blogged about way back when: http://www.xanga.com/DrTiff/113883146/item.html
Vibrant! Your family room is so warm and welcoming! Beautiful – all of it is just stunning.
I meant to ask…. What kind of paint do you use? Is it just regular ol’ paint?
What would Julie use? (to paint that is)
He’ll love it, I’m sure! Beautiful!
oooh I love it!!! the orange is amazing!!!!
Yes, please, what are you eating/ingesting/etc to get so much done??? Oh yeah, you’re, like, 40 years younger than I!!!
I love the colors. When you want a working vacation, please, consider my house. And to note on blog below, your boy has suddenly morphed about 5 years over night. Yes? The changes are astonishing.
Wondeful pictures. How di you get the paint to look like that in the bathroom. I love that colour can you tell me the name and the technique you used. I wish I had half your energy. I want to paint my bedroom that colour.
I’ve not recieved any mail today, if that answers your question. but If I do, by chance, recieve anythign I will be sure to post about it right away!! and to comment/email that person as soon as I recieve said possible mail.
(I hate to assume things)
God, I wish I had your energy when it comes to, well, anything, but especially working around the house. It looks great!
Tee hee! Fab changes Julie. Bet Hubby never knows what the house will look like when he returns. The element of surprise lol!!!
It is sooo awesome,you are making me want to really paint now!
What beautiful rooms! You should have a show on HGTV, LOL.
I especially love the bathroom colors!
The bathroom technique: the paint colors used were two shades of blue-ish lavender (one lighter/one darker). The light paint I applied like you would any other paint and let it dry as a base coat. Then, I took some painters glaze (any hardware store will have it) and mixed it 4 parts glaze to 1 part darker paint. Then I took a “woolie” (a hand tool with wool-type matting on it) and squished it on, moving the woolie about until I liked the layers.
and WHERE do I get my energy?
Crack, and lots of it
hee, hee
You are amazing. I don’t really like painting, but I would way rather be painting than looking for snakes!!
I love all the changes. I have a rental house and can’t make changes but, If I could I would do the same as you. I get the urge to just change stuff and it’s pretty major when I do! Fun though, what our creativity produces. Great that your husband lets you have free reign… Yay for love and support!
Oooh, persimmon! Yum.
I do the same thing when hubs gone!! Love all the new changes! Really joyful!
Beatiful! All of it!
But will he notice? After I painted our living room green, Thomas didn’t say a word. I said “Well? Notice anything different?”
“Ummmm. Your hair looks nice?”
Men.
magnifico! (said with both gusto AND zeal)
That is gorgeous! Anytime you want to come and redo my living space….I will glady go out looking for snakes!
I find it’s best to do major ripping out and household changes when the man is gone, perhaps for different reasons.
How long has it taken you to accomplish all of this?
knitsteel: three days (with some done at night after the kids are in bed)
It’s just beautiful!
Oooo, you are so good with color! I don’t know about your man, but I love it
I absolutely love your home! It looks so warm, inviting and relaxing! AWESOME!
The question is- does he notice the differences?
How fun!
